What is FSSC 22000?

The FSSC 22000 Food Safety System Certification provides a framework for effectively managing your organization’s food safety responsibilities. FSSC 22000 is designed to drive the international harmonisation and transparency of food safety standards. Under the internationally recognised FSSC 22000, your whole network of processes will be assessed and monitored using the process-based approach.

Developed by the Foundation for Food Safety Certification, FSSC 22000 represents a whole new approach to food safety risk management throughout the food supply chain.

FSSC 22000 is a complete certification scheme based on : 

• ISO 22000 (Global Food Safety Management System Standard)
• Specific technical specifications for PRPs (e.g. PAS 220/ISO 22002-1 or PAS 223)
• FSSC 22000 Requirement (Additional GFSI requirements)

What is GFSI?

The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) is coordinated by The Food Business Forum CIES. This forum is a global food network made up of approximately 400 retailers and manufacturers worldwide. GFSI does not certify organizations, but has determined which food safety certifications it accepts or recognizes. These are called GFSI Benchmarked Standards and FSSC 22000 is one of it. Many organizations will request that its suppliers achieve a “GFSI Benchmarked” certification scheme.
